The Mach2.3

The third major upgrade in the illustrious life of the Mach2 Moth has been completed and is now shipping.


We've been working hard to make the Mach2 faster, stronger and more reliable, whilst only adding 150 grams to the overall weight.

The M2.3 incorporates production improvements, lessons learned from the Sorrento World Championships and sailor feedback. This is the best version yet of the our 7 times World Championship winning boat. 

With the demand for 2nd hand Mach2’s at an all time high this is a great time to get your hands on Amac’s latest iteration. The upgrades come at a timely moment as sailors start to think about the 2016 World Championship in Japan.

The new 2.3 upgrades are:

  • added laminate around the front wing bar sockets to increase strength
  • increased the stiffness of the side panels near the front wing bar to reduce deflection and denting
  • redesigned the front frame to take greater compression loads


  • repositioned the utility tube to the centre of the boat for adjustable forestay option
  • shortened the control rod tunnel to allow for the 2.3 right height adjuster
  • repositioned the vang pulley saddles to allow for positive bolt and nut fixing, moved away from vang to reduce friction


Bow Mechanism
  • changed welding method of wand axle to increase fatigue strength by over 300%
  • modified angle of the wand holder for improved control
  • tightened tolerances of the bow mechanism for improved tracking


Front Wing Bars
  • stiffened and changed build method to reduce possibility of cracking on the inner ends
  • reconfigured front wing bar laminate to increase reliability


Outer Wing Bars
  • repositioned laminate to stiffen and lighten
  • balanced stiffness vs impact strength by changing layout of high and standard modulus fibre


Front Tramps
  • strategic strengthening of weak points


  • changed gluing methods to increase joint strength
  • changed laminating methods to increase strength of the joiners
  • changed the laminate of the tubes to increase impact strength


Steering Control & Rudder Stabilization
  • Tiller: tightened tolerances on sliding gudgeon to remove play
  • Gantry: tightened tolerances of the gantry bushes
  • Rear Vertical: tightened tolerances of the lower gudgeon hole


Front Horizontal Foil - shape and laminate enhancements
  • All: significant improvements to the laminate to increase consistency and impact strength
  • All: improvement in the Kevlar hinge construction and hinge protection
  • Medium: rebuild the mould to improve flap alignment
  • Small: tweak the mould to improve flap alignment


Rear Horizontal Foil - complete overhaul of the laminate
  • Small Anhedral: increase hoop strength to reduce expansion under high temperatures
  • All: extend root laminates further out to increase impact strength
  • All: significant strength increase of the rear edge


Front and Rear Vertical Foils - much stronger!
  • complete overhaul of the laminate resulting in much straighter fibres and 70% increase in the yield strength
  • changed the laminate of the plug (that the horizontal attaches to) to increase torsional impact strength
  • increased overlap of fibre around the gudgeon area to increase impact strength


  • reinforced bottom of the mast to strengthen boom attachment
  • stiffened top and bottom for better all-round performance


  • strengthened boom to take extra vang loads
  • stiffened boom for better rig dynamics


  • KA MSL16.5 option, based on the 16.31b used by the top three at the 2015 Moth World championships
