The Mach 2 story started on a rock. Specifically a rock called Portland Bill in Dorset, England

Here Andrew McDougall began to realize how to design the fastest Moth on the planet. He was already responsible for the current fastest design but his natural learning from all the practice that eventually put him in second place overall at the 2008 World championships, started to settle down into a series of thoughts. As he sat on a rock, waiting for the wind to go down, these thoughts fell into place, and became the makings of the Mach 2 design.

Mark Evans from McConaghy boats always wanted to produce Moths. John McConaghy, the company founder, had loved Moths and built many in his time. Mark understood the market opportunity, but this time he wanted to be involved, and in the summer of 2008 he called Andrew McDougall.

Immediately there was a synergy. Some projects have to be pushed up hill but this one was meant to happen. It seemed to come together organically. In the weeks that followed the boat was designed, and then they began to tell the world.
